Siluete (The Silhouettes)
were formed in 1961 almost straight after they saw the film with Cliff
Richard & The Shadows in local cinema. Under very strong influence
of The Shadows sound, they also choose the similar name. Their first big
gig was in the same year as support of one of the first rock'n'roll stars
in ex Yugoslavia - Djordje Marjanovic. They played in front of many thousands
of his fans. In 1963 they almost split up. Zoran Miscevic - legendary
Yugoslavian 60s punker - vocal and bass guitar, reformed Siluete in 1964.
One of the new members is Tomi Sovilj (see Tomi Sovilj i Njegove Siluete).
During 1964 they had few great gigs but in the same year they split
in two different bands - Siluete and Tomi Sovilj i Njegove Siluete (Tomi
Sovilj and His Silhouettes). In 1965 they shocked all Yugoslavia with (very)
long hairs. Next year they made few clips for national tv. Zoran's
long, blonde died, hair is big scandal in whole land. Siluete are part
of art happenings and performances of young painter Olja Ivanjicki
in Zagreb and Belgrade. At the same time they are on every cover page and
their popularity grows every day. People and fans chased Zoran on streets
wanting to cut his long blonde hair. In period 1966-1968 Siluete get a
reputation of scandal band - vandalism on their concerts, fighting with
audience, breaking guitars and bottles on stage.... Zoran Miscevic is the
first mega star - he gets hundreds of letters every day. They also tried
to become popular outside of Yugoslavia - for a few months they were touring
Austria and Germany but without big success. Only their scandal reputation
gets bigger. They also spend 1968 and 1969 playing in different night clubs
all over western Europe with ambitions for an international record
contract. They wanted so hard to be famous outside of Yugoslavia, specially
in the west, but without success. In 1969 they finally split up. Most of members came back
to Yugoslavia. Zoran spent some time in Germany with an Italian band and
he came back in 1973 almost forgotten by everybody. In 1975 he tried once
more with Siluete. They made one 7" with some folk rock song but days of
glory were over. Zoran died in 1995. Siluete's 60s EP's sound pretty tame.
They were more live band but their records are great too. They played beat
and rhythm and blues with great vocal, voxxy keyboard sound and here and
there great fuzz guitar solo. It's pity that they couldn't catch their
raw live sound in studio. Their tv clip(s)
seem to be much rawer. They put only covers on their records and they didn't sell
so much records as some other 60s bands. But because of their great punk
attitude their glory was much bigger and they have a special place in
ex YU rock'n'roll.
Siluete released 1 more 7" in 1976.
