Indeksi or Indexi started in 1962. They were all
students at that time so that's why they called them selves Indexi (index
- book with all your study results). In the beginning they were instrumental
band. 1964 they win 2nd price of Gitarijada festival (first price went
to Elipse) after what they got the chance to record their first 7". In
the mean time Davorin Popovic (singer - also great basketball player, ex Puci (Spiders)) joins
the band. In december 1967 they tour USSR. In the same time they start to
experiment with their music (in song "Boj na Misaru" they use some eastern
folk instruments). Their works from 1967 are strongly influenced by psychedelic
and acid sounds. "Negdje na kraju u zatisju" is the first trip song that any of ex
Yugoslav bands made. The song is longer than 10 minutes and full of beautiful and
strange parts. It's real psych master piece. After playing on many festivals
they finally get the price for best rock band on Zagreb festival 1971.
Later they become one of the biggest bands in
ex Yugoslavia. They also toured some other East Europe countries. In 1972
they release 7" with song "Plima" which was recorded but not released in 1968
because the publisher thought it wasn't commercial enough. Davorin Popovic
also recorded some solo albums.
