The
band Messerschmitt was formed in 1987. Members of the band used to play
in bands Boycott Fury and WGP. They describe their music as "maximum highway
rock". The first release was tape "Lussy" in 1988. This tape was pretty
raw, high energy punk rock. Influences of MC5 and late 60s early 70s were
very strong. On this tape Messerschmitt covered few standards as "I'm man",
"Keep a Knockin", but they also did a bit strange version of Motorhead's
"We are The Road Crew". Still I think the best part of this tape are really
great Messerschmitt's songs, specially garage punk killer "Today, Today".
They also appeared on famous compilation called "Bombardiranje New
Yorka" (Bombing of New York). Their first lp "Foxxin" came out in 1990.
Acid sound of fuzz guitars, punk speed and pumping rhythm and blues bass
fill up every corner of your room. Again we have few covers - "Dimples"
and manic version of "Route 66". Of course Messerschmitt proved again
that their songs are also great - my Foxxin favorites are "Miss Jackie
Daniels" and really great version of "Today".
In 1991 started the war in Croatia. That was really very bad year
for r'n'r. All original Messerschmitt members except Miro Kusacic (guitar
and vocal) left the band. At the end of 1993 Miro goes further with Messerschmitt.
They release their 2nd lp "Shake That Thing". On this record Romeo Djomlija
(The Spoons) appears as guest. High energy rock and rhythm and blues -
it seems that they listened too much to late 60s Stones records. Opening
is "Jumping Jack Flash" cover. The other two covers like "Little Red Rooster"
and "I Just Want to Make Love to You" remind us of Stones. "Shake That
Thing" is less punk than "Foxxin" but I real like it. It's great rock'n'roll
album with all magic that many of these early 70s records have - you know
what I mean - driving guitar, here and there a bit slide and honky tonk
piano, of course harmonica and great garage punk Miro's voice.
In 1995 band splits up.
