THE SPOONS
Kojoti (The Coyotes) are one more typical garage punk band with roots deep in late 60s and early 70s. They started in 1993. Some members played before in two  not very known bands: Greaseballs (psychobilly/rockabilly) and Pokvarena Masta (Dirty Imagination) (garage punk). Anyway, the war stopped both bands to become more popular in ex-Yugoslavia. Both bands just got their first releases and had very successful gigs all over the land.

Anyway, when the war ended in Croatia - Kojoti became, together with Majke, very popular new band. Their 1st cd comes out and they have big hit with "Razuzdan i lud" (Wild and Crazy). If you ask me "Razuzdan i lud" is very good and wild rhythm & blues song, but I think there are lot of other songs from Kojoti's 1st album which had much more potential to be hits. It's just question of taste. Definitely "Razuzdan i lud" is also one of my favorite songs. Album starts with heavy boogie guitar riff of "100 milja daleko od nje" (100 Miles Away From Her). It has nice chorus, great old fashion guitar sound and punk energy. "Ti imas ono sto meni treba" (You've Got What I Need) is inspired with early Stones honky tonk stuff. Then comes "Razuzdan i lud" and after that the best song for me - "Posljednji metak" (The Last Bullet). Great rhythm & blues riff, chorus, slide guitar solo - and 2 minutes are sometimes too short. My favorites are also rhythm & bluesy "Na kraju svijeta" (At The End of The World), punky "Mocan San" (Mighty Dream) and the only song in english "Tear in my Beer". I'm not sure if this song is Kojoti's song - but I really like that lazy, bluesy and drunken song.

After very successful first album and many great gigs, Kojoti toured Slovenia where they also played together with very famous band Partibrejkers from Belgrade. When they came back to Croatia they were under strong boycott because of that. Nobody wanted to play their music anymore and many bigger clubs refused them. But Kojoti didn't care about nationalistic madness and boycott and in 1996 they record the 2nd album "Halucinacija" (Hallucination). "Halucinacija" is, as the title says, slight turn to psychedelic sounds. Songs are bit longer, very good produced. I have to say that Kojoti found their own sound, but I was not so happy with it. I prefer their 1st album and that dirty guitar sound. "Halucinacija" could be compared with - let's say - Kula Shaker, but then without that strong Indian influences, if we forget intro of "Izgubljen u svemiru" (Lost in Space). 2nd album was a big commercial success too. It's not bad record at all. There are few really great songs: hit single "Hodala je 1/2 metra iznad zemlje" (She Walked 1/2 Meter Above The Ground), psychedelic "Izgubljen u svemiru" (Lost in Space), heavy 70s funky and punky "Uzmi ili ostavi" (Take It or Leave It) with great wah wah guitar and hammond organ and heavy psychedelic "Izmedju stvarnosti i sna" (Between Reality & Dream).

Kojoti have 3rd cd too. It's called "Sex Disco Kung Fu" - funny name, but I really don't know  what's behind it. I'm still looking for it.
